Meet our inspirational fundraisers

Our hosts are key to making Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea a hit every year. We need your help and energy to raise funds and we’re always keen to hear about new and inspiring fundraising activities that support our mission to fight cancer.
Meet the people who make every cup count.

Therese Watts, Amaroo School

Inspired by a dear friend who she lost to cancer 10 years ago, Therese Watts has hosted a biggest morning tea since 2002. Therese said, “It’s a great way to gather people together to support the cause.”

This year her morning will be held in the Amaroo school hall and people will travel from far and wide to attend. “Amaroo School are really supportive of my morning tea and they are proud to host the event.” she explains “I first started by hosting a morning tea in my home with a few family and friends. Over the years it has outgrown my home and I now expect over 120 people to attend.”

Irene's Story, Host

Hundreds of Darwin tea drinkers will again attend morning tea at the Greek Orthodox School this May, where for the last 15 years, more than 2000 people have enjoyed Irene Mellios's morning tea.

Irene first started hosting morning tea events from her family home, when up to 70 people turned up, but they soon outgrew her living room and she knew she’d need bigger premises.

Irene now sees more than 200 people attend the annual Greek community morning tea and in her 15 years of hosting she has raised over $120,000

Deutsche Bank, corporate supporter
Deutsche Bank has participated in Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea for seven years.

What began as a simple fundraising idea in just one division has grown to involve the entire organisation, with morning teas taking place across Deutsche Bank in each and every department. So too have the donations grown with over $20,000 raised last year.

By supporting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Deutsche Bank is backing a cause that is close to the hearts of many of its employees.  Kate Abrahams, Head of Communications & CSR, Deutsche Bank Australia & New Zealand explained “A lot of our employees have been affected by cancer in some way or another and have identified cancer research as a key charitable focus for them.”
Cancer Council is also part of Deutsche Bank’s workplace giving program, Deutsche Community Care, where employees can make monthly donations to Cancer Council which are matched by Deutsche Bank on a dollar for dollar basis.

Deutsche Bank hopes 2011 will be a record year with more money raised than ever before, ensuring that every cup truly does count in the fight against cancer.
