Close to Home

There’s a point where cancer stops being something you hear about, and becomes something you feel.

For most of us, it sits just outside of our own lives - something that happens to someone else, someone we know. A story passed on. A name mentioned. A quiet absence.

Until it isn’t.

All of a sudden everything shifts. Certainty gives way to questions. Strength sits alongside vulnerability. In an instant, you are trying to find your footing in something you never imagined would feel so close.

For me, that point came recently when it affected someone very close to me. Someone I have always known as strong, steady, and unwavering - not someone you associate with fragility, vulnerability, or uncertainty.

Those who have experienced that moment understand how deeply it shifts something. Not briefly, but in a way that stays. You’re not quite the same afterwards. Time feels different. People feel closer. What matters becomes clearer, and more immediate.

What I’ve seen in that time isn’t only how difficult it can be, but the quiet strength within it - carried by those moving through it, and those standing beside them. A steady, unspoken resilience, present in every appointment, every decision, every day that is faced and moved through. It takes bravery to keep showing up, even when the path ahead isn’t clear,  and just as much strength to allow others in.

This is why this year our firm will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea for the Cancer Council - to contribute in a small way to the support that carries people through moments like these, and to acknowledge how widely this is felt, even when it isn’t always spoken about.

Most importantly, TASIC Legal will be matching every donation dollar for dollar.

Whether large or small, every contribution forms part of something much bigger - a collective effort to make space for a little more hope, a little more care, and a little more kindness.
