Our Why!

Cancer touches all of us in some way. Whether it is a family member, a dear friend, a neighbour, or perhaps even ourselves, every one of us has a story.
Kim Rutch and I are hosting Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Saturday, 13 June 2026, at my home on Kawana Island.
We are hosting this morning tea in honour of our long time friend Suzanne, who passed away three years ago after being diagnosed with glioblastoma. Like so many cancer stories, everything changed in an instant. Suzanne lived life fully, warmly and generously, right up until her diagnosis.
And honestly… Suzanne would have absolutely loved this event.
She adored proper morning teas. Fine china cups, dressing up “just because”, good food, conversation, laughter and making people feel welcome. She had a way of turning simple moments into treasured memories.
While we gather in Suzanne’s honour, this morning tea is also for every person and every family whose lives have been changed by cancer. Research tells us that one in two Australians will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. That statistic is confronting, but behind every number is a real person, a real family and a real story.
The Cancer Council provides vital research, prevention programs, practical help and emotional support for people navigating one of the hardest journeys of their lives. Every dollar raised genuinely makes a difference.
We would love you to join us for a morning of connection, kindness, beautiful food and community spirit. And if you would like to bring along your favourite morning tea dish to share, it would be most welcome.
And of course, there will also be a little creativity woven into the day. You will have the opportunity to make a handmade card for someone special in your life — a small but heartfelt way to let someone know you are thinking of them.
If you are unable to attend in person, you can still support this important cause by making a donation through our fundraising page.
Even if you never knew Suzanne, I am certain you know someone whose life has been touched by cancer.
This morning tea is for all of them.
Please RSVP by 10 June 2026.
