Support my Biggest Morning Tea
Please join me at my 4th Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council on Saturday, 3 May, 2025 from 11am in the park at Salford Promenade, Mindarie, or donate online to help me reach my fundraising goal!
This year, I’m hosting the morning tea in honour, and in remembrance of my Dad, Len Edwards who was born on 3 May 1925 -100 years ago. My Dad passed away aged 53 from cancer leaving behind his beautiful wife, Maureen - Mum to Melanie, me, Colette and Lawrence. We were so young when our Dad passed away, and while we didn’t have the opportunity to really get to know him, we each have the memory of being raised by a loving Dad.
Our Dad missed so many of our childhood, teenage and adult milestones and we missed having our Dad around as we went from teenagers to young adults and beyond. Dad would have been so proud that on leaving school, Melanie landed a job with Nat West Bank. Lawrence never got to have his first pint with his Dad but he certainly picked up a lot of skills from Dad and I know he’d also be so proud of the building business Lawrence has created. Neither Colette nor I got to have the privilege of our Dad walk us down the aisle at our weddings; he didn’t get to meet Ged or John. He wasn’t there to hear the happy news (x 2) that he was going to be a Grandad and never got to meet Kieran or Alex.
So many happy times we never got to share.
I think of my Dad, and my Mum, every single day. In fact, as I’m writing this today, 11 March 2025 marks the 46th anniversary of my Dad’s passing.
I know I’m not the only person to have lost a loved one; family or friend to cancer or to have friends diagnosed and thankfully survive. Most people have been affected in one way or another and so it’s time once again to come together to raise funds for the work Cancer Council are doing in terms of research and support for those affected by or living with cancer.
So come and join me, John, Colette, and Ged for morning tea, a glass of bubbles, fun games, and raffle prizes.
The Marina Mindarie and the businesses along the boardwalk are great supporters of this event as are our friends, their families, and other businesses further afield and I’d like to acknowledge and thank all those who have kindly donated gifts for raffling for their prior and ongoing support.
The day is family friendly so feel free to bring your kids and friendly fur baby along. BYO chair / blanket and if you’d like to bring savoury or sweet treats to add to the morning tea table, that would be very much appreciated.
I’m delighted that once again Tracey Roberts MP, Federal Member for Pearce will be joining us. Tracey has been a great supporter of the fundraising events I’ve hosted for Cancer Council.
Donations on the day can be made in cash, or via a QR code directly to my fundraising page.

Oh Kathy, this has brought me to tears reading this. We were so close when your lovely Dad passed away and I remember going for a walk with my lovely Dad to try and understand the hurt that you were all going through .. I remember it like it was yesterday. You then supported me when we lost our lovely Dad and I too feel so very sad for what he has missed out on. I hope you have a very successful morning tea and raise lots of money. I wish I could be with you to raise a glass of fizz xx
