Why I’m Raising Funds for the Cancer Council – In Honour of My Mum
Why I’m Raising Funds for the Cancer Council – In Honour of My MumThere are moments in life that change you forever. Watching my beautiful mum battle brain cancer for 2.5 years was one of those moments.
Mum was the kind of woman who lit up a room — strong, graceful, fiercely loving, and incredibly brave. When she was diagnosed, our world shifted. Suddenly, time was measured not in days or months, but in moments — in laughs shared, hands held, and silent strength exchanged.
Cancer is cruel. It strips away so much. But even in the hardest times, Mum held onto her dignity, her humour, and her courage. She fought fiercely but also chose to face the end on her own terms — a decision that took immense bravery. Her strength and determination inspired everyone who knew her, especially me.
Losing her left a hole in my heart that will never truly heal. But it also lit a fire in me — a need to do something meaningful in her honour. That’s why I’m raising funds for the Cancer Council.
This fundraiser is for her. And it’s for every person who’s sitting in a treatment chair, every family holding their breath through scans, and every loved one navigating life after loss. It’s for hope. It’s for better treatments. It’s for more time.
If we can raise even a small amount, it can help someone feel a little less alone, a little more supported, and a lot more hopeful.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with me in honour of Mum.
With love and gratitude,
Stacey
