How cancer has affected me personally.

Hay hay — Susan here.
This year, I’m hosting the Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in memory of my Aunty, Stacey 💛
She was many ways, my second mum.
I spent many weekends at her place while my parents worked, and she cared for me when I first moved to Australia, while my parents were still overseas.
Years later, she was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
She fought it — and won.
Twice.
But the third time it came back…
After multiple rounds of chemotherapy, she passed away in 2022.
She was 51 when she was diagnosed, and 62 when we lost her.
She had most of her treatment overseas, so I couldn’t always be there.
As a nurse, I tried to support her from afar, suggesting small things to ease discomfort, helping her navigate treatment, trying to lift her spirits.
But nothing really takes away how hard cancer treatment is.
That experience stayed with me.
It’s part of the reason I created Anwen & Kind , a gifting company to help people find small, meaningful and practical ways to care for loved ones during illness, hospital stays, and recovery. Anwen & Kind will be sponsoring this morning tea along side Northern Private Hospital to raise essential funds for those affected by cancer.
📅 Wednesday, 20 May 2026
This is a chance for all Northern Private staff, patients, and visitors to come together, have a cuppa, a chat, and support one another.
NPE's amazing oncology nurses will also be there to offer support around cancer and treatment.
If you can’t make it but would still like to donate, I’d truly appreciate your support.
P.S. I'm a trained pastry chef!
so yes...this morning tea will be worth showing up for! :)
